Wessex Lichen Group field meeting
Date: Saturday, 17th October 2026
Place: A visit to Bratley Wood (SU2208) in the New Forest
Time: 10.30 am at the Canadian Memorial car park (SU2400 0930). NB there are now charges for the Forest car parks, the cost being £8.00 for more than 4 hours (visitors paying by the RingGo app or RingGo website can pay later until midnight the day after visiting).

Bratley Woods was partly damaged by the recent wildfire. A recent brief visit showed that the two known trees with Red List species in the area burned had both survived, although a lot of veteran trees were sadly damaged and likely dead or dying. We will mainly look at the areas saved from the fire, some of which have never been visited, but will also survey the damaged areas too. The site is about a 1 km walk in and the terrain is quite rough, so bring a packed lunch and suitable footwear.
