Sorby Natural History Society (Sheffield) - Lichen Meeting to Over Owler Tor
Tuesday 18 April 2023
Leader: Steve Price, email: lichenrecords@sorby.org.uk
On the eastern flanks of Over Owler Tor the gritstone boulders and the open birch woodland support a good range of lichens typical of the habitat. This part of Hathersage Moor is short of located records.
Meet at 10.30am at the Peak Park’s Surprise View car park (pay and display – card payment only) grid ref. SK251800. The car park is on the A6187 about 3 km east of Hathersage and 2 km west of Fox House.
Please note that the terrain is awkward in places. The reason we are meeting in April is to be there before the bracken has grown and made it even more awkward! As always beginners are most welcome as are Members wishing to study areas of interest other than lichens. Bring a hand lens, note book and field guides. The plan is for a full day meeting so do bring along a drink and lunch.
The meeting is open to BLS Members.
