Lichen Meeting to Holme Moss and Black Hill

Tuesday 10th May 2022

Leader: Steve Price, email: lichenrecords@sorby.org.uk

This area of upland heather moor and peat bog gives the opportunity to record in VC 63 (SW Yorkshire), VC 58 (Cheshire) and in modern day Derbyshire all in one outing.

The whole day will be spent at more than 500m altitude. Even on a sunny day clothing adequate for wet and cold weather should be worn.

Meet at 10.30am at the car park at the high point of the A6024 near the Holme Moss transmitter station – grid ref SE09620369. There are 2 car parks up here, this one is on the North West side of the road and gives ready access to the adjacent moorland. The car park itself is at 515m so very little altitude needs to be gained in the day.

This meeting is joint with the Sorby Invertebrate Group – Cladonia’s and early season inverts are the order for the day.
