Sorby Natural History Society (Sheffield)

Lichen Meeting to Bole Hill Woodlands on the Longshaw Estate
Tuesday 14 October 2025
Leader: Steve Price, email: lichenrecords@sorby.org.uk

We will study and record lichens on gritstone boulders and in oak and birch woodland. This part of the Longshaw Estate is short of located records.

Meet at 10.30am at the Peak Park’s Surprise View car park (pay and display – card / app payment only) grid ref. SK251800. The car park is on the A6187 about 3 km east of Hathersage and 2 km west of Fox House.

Please note that the terrain is awkward in places. As always beginners are most welcome as are Members wishing to study areas of interest other than lichens. Bring a hand lens, note book and field guides. The plan is for a full day meeting so do bring along a drink and lunch.

Note: the meeting on this date was originally planned to be at Sprotbrough, Doncaster however, as was announced in the July Newsletter, because of the paucity of lichens found (or not found) during the recce visit a change of location was necessary.
