Lichen Meeting to Roche Abbey

Saturday 30 July 2022

Leader: Steve Price, email: lichenrecords@sorby.org.uk

Surrounding this ruined Cistercian abbey is an area with Permian limestone outcrops and woodland. The latest records on file date from 1982 and list just 30 taxa, an update is well overdue. The earliest records date from 1836 and include some lichens that, although not recorded in 1982, could be present today. Note: Roche Abbey is under the management of English Heritage and we do not plan to record from the stonework of the Abbey ruins.

Meet at 10.30am at the Abbey Car Park (grid ref SK541900). This is accessed from the A634 south-east of Maltby.

As always beginners are most welcome, bring a hand lens and a note book, as are Members wishing to study areas of interest other than lichens. The plan is for a full day meeting so do bring along a drink and lunch.
