Paisley Natural History Society lichen walk
Date: 27 January 2024
Time: 10am to 2pm
Location: Muirshiel Country Park, near Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire. Meet in the second car park on the left (Grid ref NS 31771 62977).
Craig Postlethwaite is leading this outing to look at lichens around Muirshiel Country Park. It will start with lichens around the carpark and nearby stone walls before walking along to the visitor centre for tea etc. The walk will then head along the mine trail a short way to look for more lichens on rocks and on the ground before walking back to the carpark. The walk will take about four hours but people can leave whenever they want. Lichens will include several cladonia species and less pollution tolerant species than were found in Craig’s lichen walk in the Gleniffer Braes Park in February 2023.
Please ensure that you dress appropriately for the weather, wrap up warm and bring snacks and hot drinks.
There are no public transport options to the site but if anyone wishes to attend who doesn't have their own transport they can contact PNHS or Craig directly at paisleylichens@gmail.com.
