Caer Belan Fort, Caernarfon Exploratory Field Meeting

Details

This field meeting will be based at Caer Belan Fort near Caernarfon, Wales. The accommodation is in a grade 1 listed fort. The meeting will focus on identifying the local saxicolous and maritime lichen. There will also be an optional day trip to examine an unrecorded Welsh woodland nearby plus adjacent sites. 

Costs range from £139 to £215 for the 4 nights.

Catering

Participants will be staying 4 nights from Monday afternoon on the 16th to Friday morning on the 20th March. The accommodation is self-catering and participants will need to bring food for breakfast and lunch.

The first evenings hot meal will be provided free. Contact Eluned about any allergies, intolerances or dislikes please.

Accommodation

There are single and double mattresses and rooms will be allocated later. None have en-suite facilities. There is no bedlinen so participants will need to bring their own sheets, pillowcases, towels and duvet covers if travelling by car. It will be best to bring double size rather than single size.

Bedlinen and towels can be provided for those travelling by public transport.

Can every attendee please bring a bag of X10 £1 coins for the electricity meters.

Be aware that the car park is 100 metres from the front doors of the five 'units' and that wheelbarrows are available to transport your bag and microscope.

Microscopes

There is no room for extra microscopes on the tables so the BLS ones will not be brought. Please travel light.

There are several pianos.

Payment

The deposit of £100 each payable in November 2025. Please pay the BLS by bank transfer using the code MAR26 followed by your surname.

The deposit will not be returnable after the 12th January 2026. So if you have to cancel, do so before the 12th January.  The remainder of not more than £100 will be due by the 12th February using the same code and your surname.
