General Description

A common lichen. The thallus is usually erect and densely tufted, with grey-green lobes up to 5cm long. The lobes are branched, wrinkled, rounded or flattened, with apothecia at their tips which tend to conceal the thallus.

Identification

Chemistry: All reactions negative.


Similar species: None of the other Ramalina species in the UK form bunches of branches with multiple apothecia at the ends.

Habitats

Common on twigs and trunk of trees in well lit places. Rarely on soft, basic rock. Tolerant of air pollution.
