General Description
A distinctive lichenicolous fungus found on Physcia species and sometimes Xanthoria parietina. The perithecia are densely clothed with hairs, with a dark reddish naked area around the ostiole visable when wet, but with the perithecia collapsing when dry and appearing ulcerate. Spores 1 septate and (14-)15-20(-23) x 5.5-8 µm (Hawksworth et al, 2010). An Acremonium like anamorph can be found associated with this fungus and is probably the anamorph of Nectriopsis physciicola.
