General Description

A lichen of nitrogen enriched maritime rocks in the supralittoral zone, resembling Catillaria chalybeia, but it has larger and sheathed spores. It differs from Halecania ralfsii, which occurs in the same habitat, in the P– thallus, lacking any greenish pigment in the cortex and smaller spores. Described in 2009 and first recorded from western Ireland, but likely to be elsewhere.
