Advanced lichen course on the Graphidiaceaea
Date: Friday 12th July-Sunday 14th July
Location: Natural History Museum, London
Tutor: Gothamie Weerakoon
The aim of the course is to offer progression for advanced and intermediate-advanced lichenologists in this specialist field.
The main focus will be on identification. Attendees are encouraged to work on their own Graphidaceae specimens – due to NHM regulations any specimens should be sent to the museum on or before 15th June for a quarantine process.
***No specimens that do not undergo the quarantine process will be allowed to the Herbarium of NHM.
Microscopes will be provided
By the end of the course attendees should:
Have increased the range of Graphidiaceae they can identify
Have a wide knowledge of the appropriate literature
Have an understanding of the taxonomic issues of this group
Feel confident to pass on their knowledge
Cost: The BLS will be covering the course costs but attendees are asked to arrange and pay for their accommodation (at full board) and for their own transport, with an additional £50-£75 contribution towards the teaching costs.
Participants should not be discouraged due to costings and are encouraged to access BLS financial resources. For information on financial support please refer to the grants section of the BLS website. There are various grants available through the BLS Grants Scheme.

Details for sending specimens to Gothamie Weerakoon, at the museum, for quarantine purposes will be sent to successful applicants.
