Cofnod is one of four Local Environmental Records Centres (LERCs) in Wales and forms part of the first national network of LERCs anywhere in the UK. Its name, which means ‘a record’ in Welsh, was chosen to reflect the importance of observing and recording wildlife. Cofnod's task is to bring together all individual records into a centralised database, allowing us to have better knowledge of the environment in which we live.
On Friday 7th November, Cofnod's annual conference was held at Bangor University. A number of local wildlife experts gave talks on their respective fields of interest, which ranged from seaslugs, through water beetles and seashore plants, to bryophytes in the mountains of Eryri. Eluned Smith attended the conference and gave a short talk about the organisation and work of the BLS. She also set up a stall for the sale of books and posters and disseminated information about the BLS to a number of potential members
