Fenn's & Whixhall Mosses NNR lichen rich M18 raised bog with Sphangum divinum, effected by past burning
This consultation concerned changes to the restrictions on the use of prescribed burning on upland peats. The Conservation Committee agreed a response which broadly agreed with the proposals as reasonable precautionary changes. However, we were critical of the general negative attitude to prescribed burning and biodiversity which is not backed up by all research. The issue is complex and needs to be evidence based and we considered that the most important issue is better burning rather than no burning or less burning.
