Sorby NHS (Sheffield) - Wharncliffe Heath

13th October 2018, 10:30

Event Description:

Saturday 13 October 2018

Sorby NHS lichen meeting to Wharncliffe Heath (with Wharncliffe Heathlands Trust)

Leaders: Dave Buttle & Steve Price, email: lichenrecords@sorby.org.uk

Wharncliffe Heath in the north-west of Sheffield is another local site with surprisingly few lichen records. The heathland, trees and rocks here should provide a good range of lichens for us to study.

Meet 10.30am at the bridge on Station Road, Deepcar. Grid reference SK291980. There is ample on-road parking here. For public transport take the bus 57 from the Sheffield Interchange or tram to Middlewood and then change to the SL1 to Deepcar.

As usual people with all levels of experience are welcome. Strong footwear and waterproof clothing are recommended. Bring a hand-lens, lunch and drinks. We will plan to finish the meeting mid to late afternoon, but of course attendees can leave whenever they like.

A map of the area can be found at: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=429150&Y=398050&A=Y&Z=115
