Sorby NHS (Sheffield) - Lichens for Absolute Beginners - a workshop
4th November 2017
Saturday 4th November 2017
location: JG Graves Woodland Dicovery Centre, Abbey Lane, Sheffield
leader: Steve Price, lichen recorder for Sorby NHS and Derbyshire
This Sorby NHS workshop is aimed at those with no knowledge or experience of lichens (enthusiasm for natural history is all that is needed). You don't even need to posses a hand lens as some will be available to borrow on the day. The idea of this workshop is to share some basic understanding of what lichens are and by looking at specimens in the adjacent Ecclesall Woods to introduce attendees to some of the commoner lichens to be found on trees.
The objective is for attendees to leave at the end of the day with a spark of interest in these enigmatic organisms.
The workshop is free to members of Sorby NHS. Places will be limited (10 places) and booking is essential. The workshop will be held in the Sycamore Room, The Woodland Discovery Centre, Abbey Lane, Sheffield S7 2QZ (grid ref SK322824).

The workshop will start at 11.00, the room will be open from 10.30 and we will finish before 16.00 by which time we need to have vacated the building.
There are drink making facilities in the room and tea and coffee will be made available. Contributions to cover the cost of these supplies will be welcomed on the day. Adjacent to the workshop room is a café which serves drinks and home-made cakes. Otherwise attendees need to bring their own refreshments and lunch.
Places are to be booked with Steve Price, email email@example.com or by post to Woodlands, Combs Road, Combs, High Peak SK23 9UP
