BLS AGM Field Outing - Abney Park Cemetery, London
22nd January 2017, 10:30
Sunday 22nd January 2017
A one day field outing to Abney Park Cemetery will follow the AGM which is being held at the Natural History Museum, London.
Abney Park in Stoke Newington, one of the ‘magnificent seven’ garden cemeteries of London, is a woodland memorial park and Local Nature Reserve, managed by the London Borough of Hackney. It was established in 1840 in a former arboretum of 13ha. Today it includes several veteran trees and is an LNR for its wildlife. Check on the website http://www.abneypark.org/ Nature page for the fungi recorded but no lichens are on that page so we have to change that! It is close to Stoke Newington tube station giving easy access from central London.
Meet at 10.30 am. at the very grand entrance a short distance along the High Street from the tube station.
Please bring your lunch with you. We will have access to the education room for hot drinks. If we have time we can investigate nearby Clissold Park, a more open public space with a café.
The location address is: Abney Park, Stoke Newington High Street, London N16 0LH
Maps of the area can be viewed at http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=533615&Y=186614&A=Y&Z=110
Further details of this field outing will be announced at the AGM.
The 2017 BLS AGM will be held on Saturday 21st January 2017 at the Natural History Museum in London.
