How to get in touch

We welcome enquiries about lichens, and you do not have to be a member of the society to get in touch with us.

General enquiries

Unless you know who you need to contact please use our general enquiries email enquiries@britishlichensociety.org.uk. Your message will then be passed on to the best person within the BLS who can help you.

However, if you just want to know more about lichens you should be able to find the information you need on the About Lichens pages, or in a book such as the New Naturalist on Lichens by Oliver Gilbert, or Lichens, an illustrated Guide to the British and Irish Species by Frank Dobson.

Identification

If you need help with identifying lichens you might want to try our UK forum or our social media accounts Facebook or Twitter or perhaps join one of our online zoom meetings for beginners. There are also local contacts for most of Britain who are very familiar with the lichens of their area, so you are welcome to get in touch with them. If none of those options are good for you then do get in touch with us on enquiries@britishlichensociety.org.uk and we will help if we can, but please note that we can't always identify lichens just from photographs as there may be important features that are not shown.

Membership matters

For anything to do with joining the society, renewing your membership, or subscriptions to the Lichenologist please contact our Membership Team on member-admin@britishlichensociety.org.uk or tel. 020 3925 3674. Their postal address is British Lichen Society, 1 Naoroji Street, London, WC1X 0GB.

Lichen Conservation Issues

For conservation issues impacting on lichens please contact the Conservation Officers on conservationofficer@britishlichensociety.org.uk. Please note we will help if we can, but due to limited capacity we will generally only be able to respond in detail on issues involving regionally or nationally important lichen species or habitats.

Financial matters

These are handled by our Treasurer, Duncan Wright, who can be contacted on treasurer@britishlichensociety.org.uk
